Everyone knows that Tom Holliston led the most brilliant, zany and sexy band ever: The Show Business Giants. Heck, even John Wright played drums on quite a few songs. That's credibility, dude.

Anyhow, Nomeansno has often discussed playing a SBG song live, though with their planning skills, it never seems to make it out of the practice room discussion. Anyhow, I'm going to provide a selection of SBG songs that NMN could potentially do and you pick the one you'd want to hear. Incidentally, I'm sticking with songs that could be pulled off by a three piece, rather than the full blown orchetration of many SBG songs.

John

That must be on Gold Love. I have never actually heard that one and Tom kinda wants to keep it that way.

:D

Canopic Jars was only released as an mp3, I don't think it was ever available on any albums. I'd hafta say Kwellada or Boy With A Truck or Marvellous or Bats or Lickspittle or Chew Excavating or Candy and Dolls or Drug Days or At One With Everything or This World's Too Crowded or Mothras Taken Tokyo... No wait- I'm a Square! I think Rob wrote the lyrics to The Things You Do, so that one wouldn't surprise me. I guess I cheated a bit with this one. I love SBG almost as much as NMN and would love to see some of their stuff kept alive.

wow
wierd that this topic came up

i was considering posting a similar question about sbg tunes and the reason being:
on the upcoming tour, for the canadian dates anyway, ford pier will be joining the tour and if he were to front a fuck band of sorts with nmn and himself the line up would be similar to a sbg set up. ford always slips in a sbg song or three into his solo set..so.... i'm guessing that these shows would be the ones to catch on the tour. tom also did a nice mix of his solo stuff and sbg tunes while touring with his guitar.........
i wanna hear mr. sulu and soundcheck to name only a few....

I remember a young Marlon Brando...

I was just gonna suggest the Ford Pier idea, as well. I've never seen Ford but can only assume that his solo act must be missing a lot in terms of the other instruments. If the NMN boys can play some of Ford's stuff, as well, maybe they can get a little something together with SBG tunes, too. I think all three of the boys have played on Ford's albums here and there, correct?

I am hoping that somewhere during those Ontario gigs there will be all four of those fine musicians sharing the stage and playing some good ol' songs together.

Ford came to europe with nmn in 2004 (I got to see their shows in Tourcoing, France and Nijmegen & Haarlem Holland). Had never seen Mr P before then but was well impressed. He played 5-6 songs solo and was then joined by John Wright (drums obviously) and Keith Rose on bass for the rest of the set. Fantastic.

Was waiting for Tom to come on to do a few SBG songs but atlas it never happened. Andy Kerr was at the Haarlem show and I was praying he and Tom would get up there and knock out a few, but again, no joy. Aahh, I thought, maybe Andy was gonna join nmn for an encore and Ford too, but again, blow out. It was still a great show but was gutted to think how amazing it could have been.
